Kevin No, the brake adjustment is the same for both gears. Assume that I'm riding in "High" gear, the 38x16, and I get to a steep hill. I get off and grab my 6mm allen key. I loosen the right axle nut (not the left). I then backpedal and move the chain from the 38 down to the 35 in front. Then I move the slack chain from the 16 to the 19 in back. Then I tighten the right axle nut again. Perfect chain tension and the wheel is in exactly the same place.
