The velcro strap is to keep the bike stationary when parking and while parked. Highly recommended if you park often in public/shared rack space, or carry loads front or rear. Gino, you're welcome. And thanks for designing such a functional and beautiful mount! Works great with the IXON IQ. I typically position it about halfway down the diagonal brace with another brace added for support.
