Hmmm...I hadn't noticed that the 50/52's had the sidepulls.  Thanks for
mentioning that. 

Regarding shudder or vibration while braking, the only times I've gotten
that - not related to wet-weather braking - are when using brand new pads on
a new rim. 

I would actually take a scotch-brite pad or emery cloth and rough up the
pads a bit.  

You should find that it lessens significantly as your rims get a little
roughed up - a good trail ride on dusty trails usually does it around these
parts. 

The only other thing to check would be that the hub has no excessive play
and that the wheel is firmly tightened down.  Also, you would want to
confirm that both pads are gripping the rim at the same moment.
