What's interesting is that Waterford builds single-speed frames for Ben's Cycles in Milwaukee, and they're like $500 (with fork). Granted you can't get much customization, and they're TIG'ed, and I'm sure they don't get the same loving attention that an officially Waterford frame does, but still - it's gotta be possible to knock out a standard frame in the US for a competitive price.
