It's intelligently simpler (to make, and in design) and boxier than my
Baggins Hobo bag. Costs probably half or less what the Hobo would probably
now cost.
A little bigger mouth which opens in <my> direction for quick grabs while
underway and shouldn't dump contents while bouncing along unzipped, and
includes a very good map case which mounts in a place where it will shed
rain off the zipper.

Has trim with reflective properties (not very obvious in daylight) which
dead cow skins don't have and it has no untaped raw fabric edges- no
unraveling or canvas string in this bag. Nothing gaudy at all. V-brand logo
is small, unobtrusive (and removable).

The canvas is more dry than waxy and has no real waxed canvas odor
(something I personally cherish); wax can be added, or cleaned off, and that
is much better to my mind than polyurethane coated nylons, which eventually
smell bad, peel off, etc.

No brass buckles, but sturdy velcro straps which will control sway and give
me something to pull against when opening or closing the zipper. I am
imagining easy to add velcro extensions if I want it to sit on a front rack.

It shows evidence of reductive evolution in that necessary features are
preserved, and less necessary features are lost (the little ticket pocket in
front of the Hobo bag? Good for little festoons found on the road, but not
much else. Not found on the BarBox)

I remember reading on the website that it was meant for drop bars only. I
think it mounts fine on my Albatross bar bike. It carries more than the bar
tube I've used up front on it, but this is a bike which doesn't like much
weight up front (the frame is a 97 Cannondale F1000 bike designed more for
singletrack racing). It'll be easier to grab things at speed with the
BarBox.

I've learned to pounce when good stuff shows up at Rivendell. Small
manufacturing comes and goes...
