Hi folks! I did a supported tour put on annually by my local cycling
club a couple of weeks ago--it was fun, good weather, friendly folks.
Didn't even have any unpleasantness from drivers. Here's some pics if
you're interested:

And a description of the tour:

It was a challenge for me on a few levels. The mileage wasn't bad,
certainly enough to test my fitness, though. And on a personal level,
it was the first such tour I've done since 1993, when I got quite sick
on a similar tour and suffered through a lot of rainy days and
nights. I ended up abandoning on the last day that trip, and haven't
done such a ride since until now.

I also am not an outgoing, social person by nature, so it was a
challenge to put myself out there as it were, even with a group of
like minded folks some of whom I already knew to one degree or
another. The first night was tough, I cruised around the campground
several times looking for a spot near someone I knew and finally was
invited by a fellow to take a small space next to his group. He ended
up being a fellow I'd corresponded with a bit about the tour, and I
hit it off well enough with him and his friends that I camped with
them the remainder of the trip!

I took my orange Rambouillet on this trip and saw another just like it
for the first time ever since I bought the thing! It was fun talking
with Dave about our orange beauties, (are you on this list, Dave?)
and it led to a funny moment sightseeing in Manistee the 4th day--I
rode my Rambly into town from the campground in street clothes to look
around and get a bite. A friend of Dave saw me rummaging through my
saddlebag for my lock and was sure I was stealing his friend's bike!
It took some discussion, a display of my tour wristband and a
demonstration that I knew the lock combination before he agreed not to
call the cops. He was pretty sheepish about it in camp later, but I
told him that Dave owed him a beer for being such a good friend, and
there were no hard feelings on my part.

I bought a clickstand (www.clickstand.com) for the tour and it worked
very well. The owner kindly rushed it so I'd have it in time for the
tour and it's a well made, and useful product. I recommend it, and
I'm pretty sure I sold a few for him on the tour. It garnered a fair
bit of interest from other riders.

A practical bunch--lots of reasonably well thought out bikes for such
riding. Not many fenders, but fortunately we didn't end up needing
them.

Hope you enjoy the pics,

Steve Frederick, East Lansing, MI
