First let me say I am sorry to hear about the problem, but glad things
worked out for you.

I do want to thank you for posting this.  I have been experiencing a
knocking in the front of my Big Apple shod bike when braking.  I
thought it was a problem with the brakes or fork and had been doing
all sorts or readjustments to no avail.

On reading your post, I took off the tire to see if perhaps my rim was
cracked as well. It is not, but on replacing the rim, I noticed that
the Schrader valve inner tube (I had a flat in a location where I
could not locate a Presta valve inner tube big enough for the Big
Apples so the bike shop I stopped at used a Schrader) reaches almost
to the sides of the rim.  I am going to try and pick up Presta inner
tubes today.  With luck they may remedy the problem.
