This has all been very good advice. If you stick with the traditional
single bolt stem, you will need the bar shim, but if you use a 2/4
bolt stem with an open face you likely will not need one. I use a 0
degree 26.0 Zoom road quill stem and the bar won't budge. I was a
single bolt stem user, as most were, but once I tried an open face
stem I find it hard to go back. With the Albatross bars in
particular, as mine are tilted down about 6 degrees, a 0 degree stem
flows with the bar..... like it's ready for flight. But, these days
even these are hard to find in silver, as the current trend for stems
is black. You can find them on Ebay though.

There is an alternative however.... I bought a threadless stem adapter
from Velo Orange this past winter in preparation for the Albatross
bars, as I had no idea which stem to use either. It's 190mm long, has
a fluted lip to hold them stem, is very strong, and it looks very
nice. Couple this with their threadless stem and it's very versatile.
For fitting purposes, I bought some closeout Easton stems from Sierra
Trading Post for about $4 each. They are black, but so what, I use
them to dial in a position then get the stem I want in silver.

In the end though..... ended up using the same 13cm. Zoom stem I used
for my Dirt Drop Bars, but that's only because I already have a long
62cm. top tube. As stated it all depends on how you want to be
positioned, but the only way to know is to try different positions.
that's where having multiple stems comes in handy. No one can tell you
what you need, it's all trial by adventure..... and once you decide,
you can always change again :) Change is good.

-Cheers, Garth
