As far as compared to the rest of Texas' large cities it's pretty awesome for cycling but not quite as good as my hometown Corvallis, Oregon. Of course the countryside is great here too, there's a bazillion lightly traveled but nicely paved country roads all over the state. There are active randonneuring groups in D/FW, Houston, Austin and Brownsville if you are into that sort of thing.
Feel free to email me off list if you want more indepth info, but here's a few things: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/bicycle/bikemap.htm there's a PDF route map there of city streets, you'll be happiest with the greens but some of the blues aren't too bad. The reds are usually ack no way. http://www.austincycling.org friendly club riders http://www.atxbs.com/ the more urban cycling crowd http://www.frankenbike.com cool swap meet On Wed, Apr 1, 2009 at 6:55 PM, Timothy Whalen <whalen...@gmail.com> wrote: > Hi Folks, > I am considering taking my S&S coupled 650b Bleriot to Austin for a few days > of riding and recreation both for fun and as a little recon for a possible > place to live.
