As I recall, they did mention Sheldon in the ad as someone who would
have loved something like this. I see now that it's not on the site
anymore, so maybe they got some flack for making it sound too similar
to his April 1 stuff and took it down. Not sure they intended it as a
joke, or simply wanted to launch a for-real fun product on a fun day.
I don't think they really wanted to steal a tradition or anything.
Times are tough, and smiling a little more is never a bad idea.
Personally, I like the way subtle humor is injected into much of what
Rivendell does. Granted, this is less tongue-in-cheek than most of
what they do, but I for one got a kick out of it.
