Today two Bleriots bounced around the unpaved roads near Middleburg, Virginia for about 38 miles. Precipitation prediction was 90%, it had rained most of the night and most local club rides were canceled, but one fellow who scheduled a “rustic” ride said he was heading out. So two of us went with our Bleriots. Four other people showed up as well.
The ride was about 90% on unpaved roads, and I think the Bleriot is the perfect bike for this kind of riding. The surface ranges from packed dirt, to loose gravel to jarring washboard and randomly scattered pot holes. But the countryside is beautiful and the horses came to greet us whenever we stopped near one of their fences. We saw new calves running in the fields. Even though it was cloudy – and we had light rain for about half the ride, we had lovely vistas and great views of mountain partly shrouded in mist. I wasn’t going to ride but my friend said, let’s go! For me, this kind of riding is possible because of the Bleriot - the way it handles just gives me a lot of confidence (though it is my only Riv).
