Yeah, I'm sure there were a few thought processes that went sort of
like this:
Pre-race:
"Install a triple or a 28?  Nah, that's for wimps"
Post-race:
"Should have ridden my mountain bike with the triple and the 32...and
the big tires!  Walking is embarassing!"

Looks like a cool race, sort of like a Bayou l'Eroica.
