Brass may be a future possibility, but I really like these Zeppelins.
The "ribs" make them nice and stiff, and they installed very easily.
The rack in front was serendipity; I had a few old racks laying
around, none of which fit the rear to my liking. I knew I wanted a
black rack to go with the color scheme I had in mind, and almost
pulled the trigger on a Tubus, but at the last minute I happened to
try the AR1 on the front, and that was that. (Although I think a Tubus
Vega on both the front and rear would be cool) I had some 3mm
stainless strips from some kitchen utility rails (by Rosle) that I got
on a blow out for a couple dollars, and hacked out the brackets after
making a cardboard template. The thickness of the two dropout fittings
made a nice flat surface for them to lay across. I added a fender
mount in the middle of the rack top. Once I leveled it out and drilled
the holes, the stack-up of wheels/tires/fender was perfect - just
enough room for a leather washer under the rack. Still some fine
tuning to do, and I'll pick up a Paul/Gino mount (or two) for some
lighting and a bag (or two) for stuff and I'll be set.
