I have one of this kind on my fixie, and I restored its comfort by drilling and lacing the flaps. It helps tremendously in retaining the structure of the saddle, and brought this one back to life.
I have never touched the tension bolt on that saddle. In my experience, it is easy to overdo it and overstress the rails, shortening their life.
