Food for thought on this topic! Just curious...........how long is that hill? Eight minutes, sounds like it goes on for miles. I have to admit I haven't timed myself strictly on hill climbs but I live in an area with many hills (Mt. Rainier) and I don't notice a large difference in climbing ability between my 21 pound bike and my 30 pound bike. Gearing seems to make the biggest difference and how I am feeling on any given day. I'm basically an old lardo however so maybe there is something I am missing. I know I've timed myself on ideal days and I am amazed at the differences I get. I then ride my 'fast bike' on the same route and am baffled that I am actually slower. There just seems to be too many variables. I suppose if I collected data over several years I might come up with some trends but that always seems distracting to the experience. I think I'll have my coffee now! Cheers-Charlie
