I actually own that "elusive Riv MTB" pictured in Catalog #3! I was able to buy it during one of Riv's "we need cash ASAP sales that happened periodically in the early days. You are correct, per the catalog it used the AR lugset, as did 62 and up Roads.
BTW, I may wind up selling off that frame this year. I hate to do it, but I just don't ride it enough to justify keeping it. If anyone's interested, contact me off-list.
