Since I'm an avid motorcyclist (we all read Zen) when I need a shim
for upright bars and a Technomic I went the beer can route. My
lifetime supply of "stock" cost $1.69. 24oz Miller High-Life : ;-)

It works OK, but the bars still slipped a bit so next time I placed a
big order from RBW GHQ I bought the shim and it is about the same
(some slippage until you really tighten the stem). Less fiddly to
install though because the shim is curved perfectly to fit.
