So that explains the cause, but what is the motivation behind this behavior? I tested saving a new file in the following apps on Windows: DrRacket Firefox Notepad WordPad Adobe Reader gVim Only DrRacket changes the case of the file name that the user specifies. Searching the bug database I see there is an open case for this: http://bugs.racket-lang.org/query/?cmd=view%20audit-trail&database=default&pr=6086 ... from 2003!
