- More professional help is needed for refined look and feel on layout details, illustrations, and icon design (metaphors and looks).
I think that *the* lowest-hanging fruit for DrRacket UI approachability for everyone would be to tweak some of the toolbar icons, probably by using off-the-shelf Free Software icons.[*]
The first two icons I'd change are Stop (make more modern look, like the Debug icon) and Check Syntax (looks too much like a Search/Find icon, and primitive look). Some of the other icons are good, and some are arguable.
Every other potential change to DrRacket UI that I can think of requires a lot of design/implementation work, and/or is debatable. But for these icons, most of the work is finding and browsing through free icon sets. This could be delegated to a student or offspring.
[*] I'd lean torwards using the same icon on each platform, rather than use the host platform's standard or theme-specific icons, so that people's DrRacket icons look the same as in the Racket documentation.
