__sync_bool_compare_and_swap is compiler builtin intrinsic only present in gcc
versions>= 4.1.
I'd guess you have gcc 4.0 on the system.
You might want to try Linux i386 (Fedora 12)

Does 5.1.3 not work?
Within 5.1.3, there are several pre-built binaries:
Linux i386 (Fedora 12)
Linux i386 (Ubuntu jaunty)
Linux x86_64 (Debian lenny)
Linux x86_64 (Debian squeeze)
Linux x86_64 (Fedora 14)
I don't know which (if any) of those should work on my system.
So I tried "Unix source", did the usual "mkdir build; cd build; ../configure;
make" and got
...
make ../racket3m
make[4]: Entering directory `.../src/build/racket/gc2'
cd ..; gcc -o racket3m gc2/main.o libracket3m.a -pthread -ldl -lm -ldl -lm
