This is no longer an issue. After checking the website, the problem was that in the Kindle edition of HTDP they leave out the ( < ) symbol. so when trying to compile ( < 4 5) I was getting an error because the book was telling me the syntax was ( 4 5). After realizing that I am actually getting it to run now
