I've got a check_news() function to test that a NEWS.md can be parsed
as expected.  See attached file (if that gets dropped in the
interwebs, it's also at
https://gist.github.com/HenrikBengtsson/2361371be4ae8681b3ee2eb361730990).
Call it in the folder where the NEWS.md file is.
