That is pretty explicit. R does not where to find a CRAN mirror, and the powers that be decided to not set a default. So do something like ## Example of Rprofile.site local({ r <- getOption("repos") r["CRAN"] <- "http://cran.rstudio.com" options(repos = r) }) in Rprofile.site or Rprofile -- and let go of some of the switches in | -no-site-file --vanilla --no-environ --no-save --no-restore CMD check | --as-cran as you are being bitten by just that: too vanilla a session.
