It works for the rest of us who suggested this. plot(1:10, ylab = expression(delta*t)) gives me a plot with the require glyph in the y-axis label. Can you show your code or, better still, some example data that shows the problem for you so we can test this? See the posting guide for what is required etc. Off the top of the head, you did use it *within* the call to plot, yes? If you just type that at the prompt you'd get what you claim to see: > ylab = expression(delta*t) > ylab expression(delta * t) Of course, I wouldn't have to guess of the top of my head if you'd shown exactly what you *did* do ;-) HTH G -- %~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~%~% Dr. Gavin Simpson [t] +44 (0)20 7679 0522 ECRC, UCL Geography, [f] +44 (0)20 7679 0565 Pearson Building, [e] gavin.simpsonATNOSPAMucl.ac.uk Gower Street, London [w] http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~ucfagls/ UK.
