Hello all
I am looking to learn R and was thumbing through volume 1 of "R
reference manual - Base Package". I'm sorry if this is ludicrously
silly to ask, but is this book worth the investment as a good way to
learn how to use R?

Actually, I supect the help manual "An Introduction to R" could be more
useful. You need at least a very basic understanding of how R operates
in order to easily make sense of a reference manual such as the one you
mentioned.
