However this is all that exists in Users/Admin
There were a couple of R files in there which I have since deleted but I am
still getting the same issue

Try deleting file
/Users/admin/.RData
It is restoring the previous session and this is many times a source for
problems.

Hello,
Look at the screenshot attached to your original post. RIght before the
red text there are two lines:
[Workspace restored from /Users/admin/.RData]
[History restored from /Users/admin/.Rapp.history]
It's the first of these two, the .RData line that you want.
Close R, delete that file and restart R to see if the error persists.
(Since it's a file starting with a period it may not appear in a
directory listing.)
If this doesn't solve the problem, maybe try the R-SIG-Mac [1] list.
