Hi Pablo, Prof John Fox is a frequent contributor to this forum, and no-one is better placed than him to respond on your particular point, but I would use the sem and the polycor packages. There's an example in the documentation of sem which uses polychoric correlations. Incidentally you haven't said which packages you'd used -lavaan perhaps?.
