AFAIK, those files (*.gsheet, *.gdoc, *.gslides) are just tiny JSON files containing references to the online/cloud resource (specifying the "url" and the "resource_id"). There are several packages on CRAN for parsing JSON files. Accessing the actual online data is a different story...
