Haven't followed this thread, but...

1) IF you are on WIndows and
2) IF you like to open R and load .Rdata files by double clicking on the
files

THEN
if you right click on the file, the "Open With" dialog allows you to browse
to_particular_ RGui (presumably the latest) you wish to use and there is a
check box to make this the default choice whenever you open that kind of
file.
