It's not clear to me what you're trying to do. You say you want to assign formulae, such as lm(y~x[,1]) and lm(y~x[,2]), to the variables "model1" and "model2". Do you mean that you want the resulting formulae to be lm(y~model1) and lm(y~model2)? Could you give a more complete example of what you have and what you'd like to end up with?
