I am trying to read an xlsx spreadsheet (1506 rows, 501columns) all
populated but getting the following error:
Please advise as to how to get around this issue.

> res <- read.xlsx("c:\\BSE_v2.xlsx",1)
Error in .jcall("RJavaTools", "Ljava/lang/Object;", "invokeMethod", cl,  :
  java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
