Thank for the answer but i'm searching for built in (matrix operations) functions (filters) or functions for pattern recognition to identify special regions or shapes (in my case species, regions, boundary's). I can then transfer the results back and mark the image in ImageJ. In addition i found out that *.gif files are displayed inverted (not the other tested file formats). Nevertheless, i'm grateful for each tip.
