Starting all over again with R-devel of 22-11-2015.
Actually, reverting back to R-3.1.3 as that has built better, and I shall apply lessons learned as I move along.

I have had a number of e-mail exchanges with people who support gcc for POWER, and have learned - read was told bluntly - that -bexpall, while getting the job done in many cases - is very inefficient (read - has a negative impact on performance) AND can lead to duplicate symbol errors as imported symbols are also exported.

Based on this, and other things I have run accross my focus at the moment is changes to ./configure (for later modification to ./configure.ac and m4/* - as appropriate.

I understand that having R on AIX may not be anyone's priority (if even concern). Comments here are welcome. I will always take them seriously. I request, especially if I have not acknowledged a reply, to (also) post to http://forums.rootvg.net/aixtools/r-for-aix/ - as I read/check those forums much more often than I am able to check mail.

Regards,
Michael
