One scheme for envelope senders of outgoing mails is BATV. I have
implemented a BATV plugin last year. It works well and does block
bounce-storms reliably.

But it is incredibly easy to mess up if your mail setup isn't really
simple. So if you go that route you should plan very carefully (resist
the temptation to "do something fast" because one of your users is
getting 4000 bounces per day) and be prepared to monitor the log files
closely for the next few weeks.
