I like that ... Of course it should be abstracted somehow via the "transport" class so all this could work appropriately in each transport type. It'd be extra neat if there was a way for plugins to define the timeout lenghts (N minutes of no-data-received, N seconds of wallclock per plugin call, etc ...)
