I can't imagine that you've so much spam connections at the same

Concurrency on our (qpsmtpd-async) spamtrap goes up to 3000 several
times a day. I've seen it hit 10k.
What kind of machine are you using for that? I'm very interested in
learning about its specifications.
Compaq (HP) G3.
Dual Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.06GHz (so 4 CPUs under hyperthreading).
Running RHEL something or other.
Load is spread across 4 mail servers (so when concurrency hits 10k,
that's really 40k-ish). The setup includes 6 machines in total. One
receives and processes signatures full time (and then distributes
them to our other infrastructure - about 3000 machines spread across
the globe) and the other does various other bits of analysis on the
spam (grouping, template reverse engineering, monitoring etc).
We have a duplicate (failover) setup in Amsterdam but they are G5s
now, and they're quite a lot faster.
