You are right, this probably is a long-term setup to avoid any possible 
issues.

The current setup was however just temporarily to try qpsmtpd.
I am impressed so much that I should just replace qmail-smtp on the 
'production' machine.
I only have to give it a though.  The current 'production' machine is a 7 
year old redhat 6.0 (2.2 kernel) machine on a remote location which was on 
my list to replace in a few weeks.

I don't know if I will run in any problems (libs etc) if I try to install a 
new PERL package. (My experience with PERL is very limited, I solve most of 
my problems with PHP scripts).

Interesting worth mentioning is that some spammers keep sending spam to the 
IP of the 'production' machine while I changed the (DNS) MX records more 
than 3 days ago to a IP of a machine running qpsmtpd.
The TTL time is set to 24 hours, I wouldn't expect this after 3 days.
