I thought no more than 2 or 3 lines at most, inserting into an existing plugin. Nevertheless, it appears that many MTAs violate the RFCs when it comes to using proper addresses, and no two verification programs return the same results. Maybe best to be more open to what you will accept, and more restrictive on what you will generate.
