I am using forkserver, the server is not thrashing (it's a 15k scsi box and has avg TPS of ~250), i'm not using the check_helo or check_earlytalker either. I have resolved the issue. The issue was with a BIG-IP that is in the picture. I thought i could have dismissed it because it was not reaching any connection limits. The problem was with timeouts. The BIG-IP tested the connection every 5 seconds and had a timeout of 16 seconds. This caused the server to be removed if it took longer than ~16 seconds to respond dropping those active connections mid stream. I do have another question regarding timeouts. I'm seeing a ~5 second delay to get the 220 response. Where is this defined? Is it customizable? Thanks again. Brad Z.
