p.s. Always create run diff from the top level directory when creating a
patch in the future, please. It makes life easier since committers
don't need to figure out what directory you were in when you made the
diff. I know, in this case it was obvious, but in general it makes the
committer's life simpler if all patches are vs. a standard location.
p.p.s. I committed this to branches/0.31, since the changes to trunk are
very different. Someone might want to tag 0.31rc2, test heavily, and
then release 0.31 while I am out of the country (Hi Ask!)
