I have modified my versions of qpsmtpd to answer as if they were qmail-smtpd, so no "I'm so happy to see you" and things like that.

The only downside is that I have to resolve some svn conflicts when upgrading. It would be nice if they all could be configured like the SMTP greeting is going to be.

When I have some time, I'll take a look at the smtpgreeting patch and clone it for all the responses.
