FWIW, the reason I wrote pperl was because I couldn't get SpeedyCGI to compile. If it compiles for you it will probably work as it's a different design (the backend is C rather than pure perl).

I average about 700,000 incoming messages per day on a single box, >90% of which is spam filtered by qpsmtpd. The server is really at it's limit, which is why I'm trying to get things like pperl working.
If SpeedyCGI doesn't work then qpsmtpd-forkserver will help a *lot* and should be a very easy migration for you.
