I would guess it's to control the amount of crap the list has been
distributing lately due to SirCam and other viruses. The list has
certainly been much cleaner over the last week than it was the two weeks
prior to that.
If anyone here is now unable to send to the list because they are
prohibited from installing another MUA, they can still use a webmail
account to post to the list.
