qmail-inject (which is called by the sendmail wrapper) appends
/var/qmail/control/defaultdomain to any hostname not containing a dot.
It's in the manpage for qmail-inject.
The quick solution is to send your mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] instead of
localhost.
