I'm sure it's just the combination of my knowing
very little about IMAP and the IMAP structure, but
I was hoping if some of you could give me some
pointers on running an IMAP server.

I want to run IMAP, but I want my connection (or
at least the uname/password) to be be secure /
encrypted. On that note, I'd also like my POP
daemon to at least encrypt the uname/passwd.

What IMAP daemon is recommended? I use the
Maildir format. I want an IMAP daemon which is
safe and segmented, the way qmail is. With the
number of IMAP remote exploits handing out
rootshells, I'd like something that will be more
resistant to such attacks.

This brings up a question of mine, though. I know
I could look at the source, but how does qmail-smtp
access home directories when it's run user qmaild,
group qmail when the directory permissions are 700?

Thanks for your help!

~Patrick
