If you're using a system with shadow passwords, and you probably are, then
you MUST get checkpoppasswd.c to compile with crypt. THAT is why your users
are not getting authenticated, if indeed you are using shadow passwords and
checkpoppasswd.c did not compile with "-lcrypt".
