Hello, i'm building new toaster. There is question which fs should be used. I preffer reiserfs but i have problem with reiserfs when maildir contains 600k messages. I don't know if it was problem of app (dovecot, qmail, midnight commander, ....) but access to this directory screwed up this directory - server was in very unstable state - load grow up and was not possible to reboot (there was some processes in D state). After shutdown (manualy) was 1 hour fsck repair was everyhting OK. I delete directory (not tried access to it again). So i realized that reiserfs isn't good for qmail with large mailboxes. I tried xfs - i don't know if it only my experience that xfs is slower than reiserfs ? I don't know make flamewars which fs is better.
I want to know your experience with qmail (large mailboxes) and filesystem (which one you are using) and possible crashes and recovery. I found http://web.archive.org/web/20031205013238/www.jedi.claranet.fr/qmail-reiserfs-howto.html (is date 2001, so it's relevant ?), specialy http://web.archive.org/web/20031230224527/www.jedi.claranet.fr/qmail-link-sync.patch (removing sync actions). I will use qmail, sa, clamav, qmail-scanner, vpopmail for toaster. There will be 2 groups(domains) of users (each group has 500 users, aprox 200G per group). Each group will have own disc for mailboxes. I think to put qmail queue on separate disc to lower load and latency, same to put /tmp directory (using by clamav and sa) to lower used disc or separate disc. Delivery rate is 1.5M email per month, peak is 30 mail per second for 30 minutes. What is your opinion and experience?
