This means you have a memory/resource/perms problem :-)

When errors occur with Q-S via SMTP - but don't happen when running
test_installation.sh - this implies it's a softlimit problem. Normally you
don't limit your interactive shells memory - so the SMTP side can see
problems that test_installation.sh can't.

softlimits for clamd - so I would have thought that part would be OK. The
fact that clamd works OK via test_installation.sh should mean it's OK via
SMTP.

Try running test_installation.sh as qscand instead of root - see what happens

setuidgid qscand ./test_installation.sh -doit
