does sound kinda odd. maybe it got caught in an empty loop/timeout. Try changing admin to a local user setup to dump the alerts to. Then set a cronjob to empty the account once a day.

Appears to stop have stopped the virus warnings, but the entire system has slowed to a craw, cant see how it could be related but thought id mention just to see if anyone thought it might be related. all i did was removed admin as a notify address and just left sender as the only notified address.

As soon as i reverted to the original config the speed problems were fixed, really weird. wasn't even able to maintain ssh sessions. huge ping variations. This has to be a coincidence doesn't it? or could the scanner have become broken and with the volume of emails and no scanner brought the system down?

any ideas ?

thanks all

michael

Subject: [Qmail-scanner-general]reconfiguring qmail-scanner

Hi,

I need to reconfigure qmail-scanner settings, ive just taken over a box and receiving 1000's of message warnings daily, mainly relating to failure notices and virus warnings. Someone suggested that i can just run ./configure to reissue the settings. the config script no longer there in /var/qmail/control/ can i just download the current stable and use it's configure script. Im guessing not, ive had a quick look through the doc section and cant find any version info.

I really just want to change the warning level of the scanner, rather than reconfiguring the whole system, is there a config file i can just edit and change the values :) if this is possible could someone point me in the right direction, if not, how can i find which version of qmail is installed so i can download it and copy over the ./configure and reconfigure the system.

any suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)

thanks all

michael
