I see no problem at all with your suggestion. I will put that into 1.22 - unless someone says why it shouldn't be there. Although, I don't understand why you set it twice. Just setting it at the top of the program should be enough - that way LANG=C will be set for any forked program - again doing nothing but improving Q-S as the entire script assumes the forked programs report back in English...
